San Francisco Round-up

Some finds from our last couple of days in San Francisco. We made it to the Farmers' Market at Ferry Building Marketplace on Saturday. It was a really big market, with a whole lot of different organic produce. Fresh peaches, nectarines, grapes, plums, pluots, all kinds of salad veggies. Everything looked great and we found mango plums - the yellow one in the picture below. Super super sweet and yummy.

My favourite find from San Francisco was La Boulange, where we had the most divine and delicious pastries.

The kids had their fair share too, and thoroughly enjoyed it. E had a strawberry cookie, and J had a slice of chocolate cake. Ah, his glee afterwards.

Our last night in San Francisco, we visited Pier 39, which is another one of the tourist traps that are so commonplace there. But the cool thing is that you can see the sea lions right at the pier, the ones that we can hear from the apartment. They just lie there, snorting and making a whole lot of noise, while people around them are snapping away on their cameras.

The highlight at Pier 39 was J trying out a bungee/trampoline thingie called Frequent Flyers. We asked him if he wanted to try it out and he said yes! He only just made the weight requirement. He was terribly excited the whole time we were waiting for his turn. He had a great time! And he was really proud of himself for doing it too. Although when we asked him to do flips in mid-air, he refused - some evidence of his cautious nature!

So we lost one of J's shoes while in San Francisco (he had fallen asleep, and one shoe fell off while he was being carried). I had to go to the nearest shop - Gap - to see if I could get a replacement pair for him. So while I'm looking for a pair of sandals for him, E starts shopping too (she does this whenever we're in shoe shops). She just luurves shoes. Yes, even at the tender young age of one-and-a-half. She picks out a pair she likes, insists on us putting it on for her. And then refuses to take it off again. Not without any struggle, at least.

You can see, she clearly won this battle.
Ballet flats are in, right?

Oh, we also tried dim sum at Ton Kiang - which according to the guidebook is the best in San Francisco. It was good, we enjoyed it, but it was the kids who really had a good meal. For the first time in almost four months (whereas they used to eat these every few days in Singapore), J had his favourite egg tarts (two at one go) while E had char siew bao (one and a third all by herself!).
